Vanessa Burke

Educated as an engineer with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees — a Master of Computer Science from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering from Howard University — Vanessa Burke worked in the field of Engineering for eight years as a Software Engineer, Senior Research Engineer and Technical Documentation Manager. After this season, she took a bold leap of faith into her field of passion, writing, and spent the next 20+ years providing writing and editing services for multiple arenas, including magazines, websites, newsletters, marketing publications and corporate communications. She is currently a freelance senior writer and editor with several clients spanning the print, digital and television industries.

Vanessa has been privileged to serve as Editor in Chief of several publications, including Style Magazine of Northern Atlanta, Southwest Atlanta Magazine and the New Birth Voice. She also served as Editor at Large for Liberia, Life & Travel Magazine of Liberia, West Africa. In addition to these magazines, her articles have been published in Gospel Today, Prism and Atlanta Woman magazines; in the Daily Devotionals of streamingfaith.com; and in the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Vanessa enjoys writing on history, travel, humanitarian issues and Christian inspiration. Additionally, her personality profile niche has resulted in several published features on well-known figures such as Ambassador Andrew Young and Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr. Currently, she blogs about inspirational revelations and messages at vanessainspirz.com.

In addition to writing, Vanessa is also naturally talented to teach and has demonstrated this ability in several ways: teaching on the Inspirational Corner segment of the cable television show “Entertaining Strangers” on the NOW Network; teaching writing to college students at GA State University; teaching biblical messages to nursing home residents as a part of the Nursing Home Ministry of Victory World Church (VWC) of Norcross, GA; teaching Bible curriculums as leader of various small groups for VWC; teaching 3rd grade at Landmark Christian School of Peachtree Corners in Norcross, GA; and preaching sermons on many international mission trips with CrossPoint Ministries in Peru, Mexico and India.

Vanessa loves to travel and has also been to Germany, France, England, Ghana, Jamaica, the Bahamas and many of the 50 states with the U.S.—and she hopes to travel much more. Her first book, “Intimate Moments: A 40-Day Journey in the Psalms” was published in April 2019, and she has plans for many more.

Her technical education, professional writing history, gift of teaching and leadership experience give Vanessa a unique background. She is pleased to join IMLAG as an Associate Consultant/Subject Matter Expert and looks forward to working with the group locally and internationally.
